SIMB Dream Raffle 2020

Soroptimist International of Manhattan Beach (SIMB), a tax exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, is conducting this raffle pursuant to California Penal Code Section 320.5, et seq, to raise funds for ongoing charitable purposes. The Rules and Regulations of the SIMB raffle are set forth below. By purchasing a raffle ticket the purchaser agrees to be bound by these rules and regulations. SIMB’s interpretation and application of the rules and regulations shall be final.

We will sell tickets until December 31, 2019, unless all tickets are sold before the end date. Six drawings will be held during the months of January to June 2020, during the monthly Board meetings of SIMB. The winner does not need to be present to win.

Only 300 tickets will be sold. The chances of winning (Six in 300) are based on that number. If fewer tickets are sold, the chances of winning improve. The IRS has taken the position that amounts paid for chances in raffles, lotteries or similar drawings for valuable prizes are not gifts, and consequently do not qualify as deductible charitable contributions. Consult your tax advisor.

How it Works

When you purchase your ticket, you are automatically entered into 6 drawings during 2020, one per month in January through June, where the winners will receive $100.00 prizes. The drawings will take place at our monthly Board meeting early in the month, and all ticket holders will be notified of which ticket was chosen. There will only be 300 tickets sold, and after a winner is chosen that ticket will be removed from the eligible winners. Ticket purchasers must provide name, address, phone and email.

Why?

Each year we provide funds, mentoring, and inspiration through two signature Soroptimist programs as well as local programs:

The Live Your Dream Education and Training Awards

are cash grants to female heads of household who are enrolled in education courses of any kind to improve their job opportunities and make better lives for their families. Last year we awarded $9,000 to five women, and the more money we raise, the more awards we can give.

Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls

is our workshop for teen girls that provides guidance, training and resources that will prepare them for career success. Our goal is to intervene at just the right time to help girls overcome obstacles and put them on a path to a brighter future.

Local Programs

include making kits for women starting chemotherapy for breast cancer, and delivering them to South Bay clinic partners; providing scholarships for outstanding girls graduating from high school; and working with Days for Girls International to make sustainable feminine hygiene kits.

How much?

Tickets cost $30, or 2 for $50. A special DREAM BELIEVER Package is priced at $100 for 4 tickets, and a complementary ticket to LUNAFEST 2020.

Soroptimist members have tickets available for sale. They make great gifts!
