november 2018 newsletter

What a wonderful start to the new club year we have had at SIMB! We had great attendance at our fall Region Workshop and learned some great best practices from around the Camino Real Region. Especially interesting was a presentation by Dr. Nina Smart, the new liaison between Camino Real Region and the United Nations. How exciting to hear from her regarding Sustainable Development Goals since I am stressing our international impact and our positioning with the United Nations. I’m looking forward to our Taste and Trivia event on Dec. 4, and in 2019, the Dream It, Be It conference on March 2 and our film festival, Lunafest, on March 31. See everyone at the November meeting and enjoy the holidays!

November 2017 Newsletter

Thanks for checking in for this newsletter. We’ve had a great start to our club year and I know you will enjoy the information and photos here.

I really enjoyed representing our club at the Camino Real Region Fall Workshop. It’s great to see what other clubs are doing. Together we heard updates on the membership campaign (All Aboard the Membership!), ideas to increase our exposure in our community, and how our Dream Programs are impacting the women and girls we serve throughout the region.

I hope to see you all at our November meeting and at the Holiday Party. Enjoy your holiday time with family and friends and keep smiling!

SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2017 NEWSLETTER

Welcome to the new club year! I am excited and honored to serve as president this year and I was happy to see so many of you at our first Business meeting in August. Our theme this year is “Service with a Smile” and it’s great when we gather to share our enthusiasm and joy in the service we do.

We’re very happy to be returning to the Hilton Garden Inn as our meeting place with its private room, A/V support and easy parking. For now we’ve decided to hold all of our meetings in the evenings to make sure as many members as possible can attend. I look forward to hearing from you about this arrangement and hope to see you there. We have jumped off to a great start with a board retreat and planning meetings to set procedures and communications protocols to support our programs. Please look for newsletters and check our website for our calendar which is constantly updated.

I want to personally encourage each of you to attend the Camino Real Region Fall Workshop on October 14 in Simi Valley. Fall Workshops are great opportunities to meet Soroptimists from other clubs in our region and learn about current initiatives in this great organization that we are part of. It’s an all day, information-packed event (9:00 am - 3:00 pm) and we will carpool. I hope many of you can attend. We have a full and fun year ahead of us. Keep smiling!

~Janice Kurihara, SIMB President

MAY/JUNE 2017 NEWSLETTER

We thoroughly enjoyed the region conference this year with Governor Ginger and her board presiding over events to recognize, celebrate, inform and inspire clubs and individuals. Our club received lots of recognition: the Governor’s Club Award for Program and Public Awareness, a Membership Award for achieving 11% growth, Soroptimist Celebrating

Success Awards in the Membership and Program categories, and the Governor’s 2nd Place Award for our story board. Several members received pins to celebrate anniversaries, led by Sue Myers who received her 35 year pin.

We heard messages from our Federation visitors and a Soroptimist from Kenya and attended valuable workshops on membership and club leadership, celebrated first time attendees, and Sunday’s Live Your Dream Award Brunch featured recognition of Mara Lopez, our club award recipient, who was given $3,000 from the region and $5,000 from Soroptimist International of the Americas as the region’s first place winner. Shannon and Jamilah also attended and the region gave out great gifts to all the club’s award winners.
