CELEBRATING 70 YEARS

Women At Their Best,

Working To Help Other Women To Be Their Best

Our Roots

Soroptimist International has a rich history dating back to 1921 when it was founded in Oakland, California, during a time when women faced significant barriers to participating in such organizations. The name "Soroptimist" is derived from the Latin words "soror" (sister) and "optima" (best), loosely translating to "best for women."

Here in Manhattan Beach, our club, Soroptimist of Manhattan Beach, has been serving the community for over 70 years, tirelessly working to uplift and empower women and girls throughout the South Bay area. As part of Soroptimist International of the Americas federation, our club is one of many that collectively boasts over 25,000 members and supporters spanning countries across North America, Latin America, and the Pacific Rim.

Our federation is just one of five that make up the global network of Soroptimist International, which encompasses clubs in more than 120 countries worldwide. This expansive network allows us to leverage our collective strength and resources to drive meaningful change and advance the rights and opportunities of women and girls on a global scale.

As we continue to uphold the values and mission of Soroptimist International, we remain dedicated to creating a world where women and girls can thrive, achieve their full potential, and contribute positively to society.
